Client Perspective on Training
Your pet is a true member of the family. Your dog also plays an important role both in the field as a hunting companion and at home, which makes training and development even more meaningful.
For us, the goal goes beyond basic obedience. It’s about building a solid foundation, progressing through each stage of development, and ultimately shaping a dog into a finished hunting retriever. Just as important is the dog’s own fulfillment—developing confidence, clarity, and a strong working relationship with the handler.
Training dogs today is very different than it used to be. They are more intelligent, more aware, and they live much more integrated lives within the home. Unlike in the past, most hunting retrievers are no longer kenneled outside year-round—they are house dogs, and are a part of the family.
Training Philosophy
The approach to training has also continued to evolve. The goal is not to force or overwhelm a dog, but to guide them in a way they understand. In most cases, these dogs genuinely want to do the right thing. When challenges arise in training, it is often not about applying more pressure, but about stepping back and helping the dog understand what is being asked.
At its core, training is about partnership. It is about developing not just a skilled hunting retriever, but a confident, willing companion who succeeds because they want to succeed—just as much as we want them to.
